Orthodontic appointments at KCC Orthodontics typically occur every 6-10 weeks. What sets us apart from other orthodontic offices is that Dr. G will see you at every regular appointment.
These regular orthodontic appointments allow Dr. Gutierrez to monitor your progression. He will make adjustments to your treatment as necessary. A typical treatment lasts one to two years and change may occur during that time.
Most of our adjustment appointments are 30-minute appointments. These appointments look different, depending on braces or Invisalign treatment.
For a braces patient, appointments may include:
- Removing or changing your wire
- Changing out the cheerios (colored bands)
- Time for you to brush or floss without the wire in
- Updating the progression of your treatment
- Recommending a new part of treatment, like elastic wear
- Bonding (putting on) new brackets
- Repositioning brackets to work in a different way
Your wire may start poking the back of your cheek a couple of days after your appointment. It means your teeth are moving, as they should be! You can watch our video on how to clip the wire at home. Another option is to call our office to schedule a quick appointment for us to clip it for you!
For an Invisalign patient, appointments may include:
- Monitoring your progression
- Giving you your next set of trays
- Recommending elastic wear
Invisalign and braces patients, you may experience slight discomfort following an appointment. You will experience this as your teeth and bite move. This discomfort will go away within a few days. We recommend eating softer foods during this time. We also recommend pain relievers (like Advil) that you can get over-the-counter. Usually, your discomfort level will ease up as your treatment progresses.
Additionally, we will give you instructions on oral care between appointments. This is so important and we need you to do your part! When your oral hygiene is poor, it can extend your treatment time. It can also cause damage or leave stains on your teeth.
