Did you know you can use your FSA for orthodontic treatment? In most cases, orthodontic treatment payments are eligible to draft from both a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) & Health Savings Account (HSA). This is a great way to utilize the money you’re already setting aside for your health!
Keep in mind that your FSA or HSA will only cover payment(s) that are from your patient portion only. Any payment(s) covered by dental insurance or another plan are not eligible. Aka, no double dipping!
Questions we get often about using FSA or HSA benefits:
Do I have to pay in full to use my FSA or HSA card?
No, you don’t have to. Our office offers various payment options. It will be up to your discretion whether you pay in full or choose a monthly, zero-percent financing option.
Can I use my FSA or HSA for my child’s orthodontics?
Yes! These types of accounts are typically offered by your employer. These funds are for yourself, your spouse, and any eligible dependents.
What if I don’t have enough in my FSA or HSA to cover the entire treatment cost?
If your total patient portion is more than you have available in your FSA or HSA, don’t worry! You can still use the amount available and then switch to another card once that set-aside money runs out. We understand you may be using this card to cover other health expenses also!
What else should I be aware of when using my FSA or HSA for orthodontic treatment?
You will probably need to submit a copy of your payment contract with KCC Orthodontics. They will also require detailed receipts that correspond with each payment. We’re more than happy to print these or email them over for you anytime! Call our office and request a detailed receipt. (281) 392-0888
Does using FSA or HSA affect my dental insurance?
No, these accounts are separate from any dental insurance benefit you may have. They do not have an effect on each other. We will file your dental insurance to pay their portion (according to your dental insurance plan).
We hope that this has given you a better understanding of how to use your FSA or HSA to pay for orthodontic treatment! Keep in mind that this money may expire toward the end of the year. Don’t risk losing it! It may be beneficial to pay a lump sum toward braces or Invisalign at that time.
