Braces are a great option for achieving a straighter smile. Before getting braces, it’s a good idea to search for information on whether braces are right for you. However, some searches garner myths about braces that have unintentionally been treated as fact. At KCC Orthodontics, we want you to have all the right information when considering braces, so we’ve put together a list of common myths to avoid when researching braces information.
- Braces are permanently painful.
When your braces are first applied, you may experience discomfort. As your teeth adjust, the soreness will go away. Many times, common over-the-counter pain medicine will relieve the discomfort.
- Braces are my only option.
While braces are a very common way to straighten teeth, it’s not the only option. Invisalign is another way to straighten your teeth and works in a similar way to braces. At KCC Orthodontics, we offer both braces and Invisalign.
- Braces are only for children and teens.
While braces are commonly worn by children and teens, there is no age restrictions for braces. When choosing between braces and Invisalign, the options all depend on what is right for your specific treatment plan.
- Braces prohibit playing sports.
Braces do not limit your ability to play your favorite sports. If you are concerned about playing sports with braces, wearing a mouthguard is a great option to prevent injuries.
- Braces will set off metal detectors.
The metal used in braces is not the same metal that sets off metal detector alarms. You can safely walk through metal detectors without worry.
Don’t let the common myths about braces hold you back from a straighter smile. It’s a good idea to gather as much information when considering braces. Know that braces aren’t the only option. Invisalign is another way to achieve a beautiful smile. KCC Orthodontics specializes in both braces and Invisalign. We’d love to see you for a complimentary consultation to help you decide the best treatment plan for your teeth.
